About Yardsale

Yardsale is an all-seasons outdoor equipment brand, focused on designing clever gear for epic days outside. We're two close friends that both have lived in the Cole Valley neighborhood for several years. In fact, we actually started Yardsale in Kelly’s basement on Shrader Street in 2023!

What’s it going to be?

The historic building really has some amazing bones, with original brick and beautiful skylights. It’s also quite large, so rather than turn this just into an outdoor retail store, we felt a need (selfishly, as local Cole Valley residents) to create a space that allowed the community and groups to gather at throughout the week and weekends.

Since not everyone needs to buy outdoor gear every day of the week, we wanted to add an experiential element to our store so that folks have a reason to swing by and hang out. That’s why we’re adding a full service coffee bar, branded as Double Black (as in “double black diamond” — get the nod to our ski roots?). It’ll have a large community table, fresh flowers, and ample places to sit. We see it as a place on Cole where you can meet up with a friend, grab a drink with your run club or walking group, and more. While we wish to always be traveling, skiing, and hiking, we know that the best part of being outside is doing it with others, away from your phones and the fast pace of everyday life. So just like a trip with friends, this space is all about slowing down and spending time to enjoy a laugh with a friend or neighbor.

What’s on the menu?

We’ll have a beautiful bar and are developing our coffee and pastry programs, sourcing our beans and goods from other local SF businesses. Can’t wait to share more on that soon!

What will construction look like?

Construction is underway and we plan to open in early May. You may see a bit of dust in the beginning (apologies in advance!) but we’ll put up a temporary covering and it shouldn’t be much of a disturbance from then on out.

What else will the space be used for?

We’re still a small and nimble team, and ship all our products right here from SF. The back of the space will be our warehouse and the upstairs mezzanine our office. Our ultimate goal is to be able to open it up to host community evenings in the evenings. If you're interested in chatting about events, send us a note to [email protected].

A little more about our products

Is this a ski pole shop? Well, you’re not entirely wrong! We did start out with a little idea to redesign ski poles but since then, the brand has grown considerably and we’re expanding our product categories into hiking equipment, bags, and technical apparel. Think of it like a mini Patagonia, but born here in SF!

We believe your gear should make getting outside easier, not more complicated. And that looking good makes you feel good. That way, you can focus on what matters: connecting with your friends and family, exploring new places, and creating the memories you’ll tell stories about for years to come. In the store, you’ll find many of our core pieces and the stories behind why we designed them. Plus some inspiration from our local and world travels about where to head on your next trip.
